Grace began working in the veterinary field in December 2015 but grew up caring for many different types of pets and farm animals including cats, dogs, goats, rabbits, and rats. Grace has come on board and quickly learned the responsibilities of kennel assistant, dividing her work time between pet care in the kennel and learning the position of technician. She will be testing for her Certified Veterinary Assistant certification in the very near future. After working in human medical side with home health care, she finds the veterinary field to her liking.
Grace has three dogs-a medium size mix-breed named Alora, and two rescue Chihuahuas named Ginger and Rory. She also has eight rats!! On purpose! She helps with a rat rescue so some of them are enjoying their retirement months with her. Their names are Lily Potter, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, Dudley Dursley, Castiel, Sam and Dean Winchester! She as just added a new baby rat for a total of nine! Because of Grace’s rats, our newest food line we stock is rodent blocks. Ask Grace why she likes feeding her pets with blocks instead of grains.
Although Grace loves the profession as a whole, she has a special interest in assisting with surgical procedures. She is amazed at what can be done to help our pets through surgery and how we can do so much to improve our pet’s lives and longevity.
When not at the clinic, Grace loves to read-especially the classics. Her favorite book is Jane Eyre and she likes all manner of geek-ery. She is a huge fan of Star Wars, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings and many others. Don’t tell her rats she is such a nerd. They still think she is a cool pet parent. She also enjoys traveling whenever she has an opportunity. She grew up in the U.S., Jamaica and Honduras. She has traveled to Italy and has a great desire to visit India someday. She hopes her dogs will come with her!! Alora and Grace also train in agility but do not compete.
